Unfortunately named Indie Rock band from central Ohio who perfected their own brand of raucous American folk music. Front man Chuck Cleaver is one of the best lyricists Indie Rock's got; he has a knack for finding the telling detail. The band's precisely observed character portraits make it easier to compare them to Flannery O'Connor than to other bands. One of many indie acts gobbled up and later spat out by a big label, the Ponys resurfaced in 2000 on Checkered Past records. For a magazine article about musicians' guilty pleasures, ex-guitarist John Erhardt cited "eating boogers."
