The Cowboy Junkies will release their first DVD, along with a companion CD, this summer. Titled Open Road, the three-hour DVD documents the band's 2001 tour behind their album Open and features two live shows: an eight-song set at the Quebec City Summer Festival and a seven-song acoustic set by Margo and Michael Timmins recorded for television. The band also culled behind-the-scenes videos and still images for a self-made documentary about last year's tour. Margo and Michael also offer commentary on the making of Open. The bonus CD is an hour's worth of live material.
Meanwhile, the Cowboy Junkies' spring/summer tour gets underway on May 9th in Detroit. They'll play two free shows this summer, one in Buffalo on May 23rd and one at the Summer Festival of Lights in Peterborough, Ontario on August 7th.
