Doc Watson is an enormously influential flat-picking guitarist, banjo player and singer who made a big dent on Americana. Doc Watson went blind before his first birthday. Doc Watson played as part of a duo with his son for over 20 years, until Merle was tragically killed in a car wreck in 1985. Watson is the curator of MerleFest, a massively-attended festival that celebrates bluegrass and folk, in honor of his son. Watson's high speed flat-picking style had a crucial influence on other players, most notably Clarence White and Tony Rice.
