Fatboy, Destiny Top VMA Noms


"Weapon of Choice," "Survivor" draw multiple honors

MTV announced the nominations for their eighteenth annual awards show on July 23rd. Leading the pack in all categories were Destiny's Child and Fatboy Slim. Destiny's Child, came in with five nominations, three for "Survivor," and two for "Independent Women Part 1." Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice," directed by Spike Jonze and featuring Christopher Walken in the mother of all dance routines, earned three nominations in the popular categories for Video of the Year, Best Dance Video and Breakthrough Video and six other nods in the professional categories, including one for Jonze, who was nominated for Best Director. Eminem picked up five nominations including Video of the Year and Best Rap Video for his collaboration with Dido on "Stan." Other multiple nominees include U2 whose "Elevation" received four nominations and "Beautiful Day," which received one.

Janet Jackson grabbed four nominations, including Best Female Video and Video of the Year for "All for You". And No Doubt's Gwen Stefani picked up multiple nods for her solo work. Her collaboration with Eve on "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" earned her three nominations and her work with Moby on "South Side" garnered one.

Already lined up to perform at the awards show on September 6th in New York's Metropolitan Opera House are U2 and Alicia Keys. More performers, presenters and a host will be announced in the coming weeks.
