Lyrical and conversational, traditional and experimental, Facing Future was the album that solidified Israel (Iz) Kamakawiwo'ole's stature as Hawaii's preeminent singer. His clear, bell-like voice and ukulele playing bring songs like "Kuhio Bay" and "Ka Huila Wai" to life: they sound gentle and thoughtful but not syrupy. His covers are great and unexpected, too.
