Jason Castro made his bottom-three debut last night, along with the judges’ favorite Syesha Mercado. But audiences disliked Chikezie’s version of Luther Vandross‘ “If Only for One Night” and sent the onetime airport baggage handler home after another awful group performance (of “Right Back Where We Started From”), a ridiculous iTunes ad masquerading as a behind-the-scenes look at the Idols in the studio and a song from season two’s Kimberley Locke. Ryan Seacrest used the call-in Q&A to let David Archuleta explain that he had indeed picked John Farnham’s “You’re the Voice” by himself because it’s one of his favorite songs, though nobody explained why viewers verbally ask their questions when they’re already printed on the big screen. Seacrest also noted that Chris Cornell praised David Cook’s version of his “Billie Jean” cover. Because it became the topic of so much discussion, check out Cornell’s performance of that Michael Jackson track after the jump.
