The Phunk Junkeez have successfully eluded fame and fortune thus far, but on July 14 the Phoenix natives hope to turn the tables with Fear of a Wack Planet. |
Oozing with punk, rap and rock layers, the band's third release on Trauma Records was produced by Lee Popa, whose past credits include Living Color, Ministry and Killing Joke. Re-mix work was done by Paul Palmer, who has worked with Bush and No Doubt.
"This album is just as groovy as the others, but it's a little smoother," Michael Pagnotta, a spokesman for the band told JAMTV on Monday. "This will be the record that breaks them."
The Phunk Junkeez will release their first single, "Hazee," on June 23, but hometown fans will likely sample new tunes during a launch party in Phoenix on May 30. Pagnotta said the group -- which cites the Beastie Boys as a central influence -- will tour the country this summer, possibly on a package tour like The Vans Warped Tour or H.O.R.D.E.. (Anni Layne)
