Minneapolis post-punk veterans, Run Westy Run, made sturdy Hard Rock without a trace of irony in their obvious love of tough '70s rock. Singer, Kirk Johnson, sounds something like a Midwestern Ian Hunter as he spits out rapid fire streams of lyrics over twin guitars that lurch, buzz and wail. This band, despite hip Indie credentials from Husker Du's Grant Hart and REM's Peter Buck, and records on SSTand Twin/Tone, seem to be a product of their older siblings hip record collection. This is meant as a compliment, as the band did what they with style and singleminded intensity.
