Elton, Fats Lead Benefit


Stewart, Kravitz, Neville Brothers, Fogerty also to play Garden show

Rod Stewart, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Jimmy Buffett, Lenny Kravitz, Bette Midler, John Fogerty, Loggins and Messina, and Earth, Wind and Fire are set to perform a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina relief at New York's Madison Square Garden on September 20th.

The show, dubbed From the Big Apple to the Big Easy, will also feature New Orleans talent the Neville Brothers, Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, the Meters, Rebirth Brass Band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

The concert is in addition to a number of other upcoming events to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, the largest of which is ReAct Now: Music and Relief, airing on MTV, VH1 and CMT this Saturday. To be staged simultaneously in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Atlanta, ReAct features a massive roster of artists, including the Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson, Melissa Etheridge, Paul McCartney, Motley Crue, Maroon 5, Simple Plan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Staind, Trent Reznor, the Neville Brothers, Green Day, Usher, Dave Matthews Band, Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Rob Thomas and John Mellencamp. Viewers will be encouraged to phone in donations to the Red Cross.

The Garden is both underwriting From the Big Apple and donating an additional $1 million to the cause. Tickets go on sale September 13th. All proceeds will go to relief efforts.

The Red Cross is currently accepting donations for hurricane relief at their Web site, redcross.org.
