Talk Show Flashback: The Cramps Tell Kids to Do Drugs and Be Delinquents

To honor the legacy of the Cramps‘ Lux Interior, this week’s flashback takes us to Chicago public access television circa 1997, with the Cramps stopping by a children’s dance show called Chic-a-Go-Go to get interviewed by a high-pitched puppet named Ratso. “I’m on drugs,” Interior tells Ratso and a home audience of Windy City elementary schoolers. “They’re good drugs.” Guitarist Poison Ivy also has some good advice for all the girls out there who want to be like her: “Stay bad… It’s too much, don’t bother.” “Grow up and be a juvenile delinquent,” Interior adds. Supposedly punk acts like the Dead Kennedys, the Misfits and Sonic Youth have all appeared on this Chic-a-Go-Go show, which is still on the air, so we’ll probably be revisiting Ratso and friends again.
