The Four Seasons
While the Beach Boys were breathing new life into male vocal harmonies on the West Coast, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons were doing the same in the East. Valli's screeching falsetto voice is one of the most instantly recognizable voices on the radio to this day. His voice, along with the songwriting talent of Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe, helped the 4 Seasons stay afloat on the pop charts throughout the early and mid '60s, even as British bands washed ashore, conquering the Top-10 like brash colonizers. Valli and the boys' best known hits -- "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Rag Doll" -- are staples on Oldies stations around the world and can still be heard daily.
