The Mills Brothers
The Mills Brothers brought astoundingly intricate harmonies to the masses during a four decade run. This brother (and father) act recreated instruments with their voices and kept shifting the vocal textures behind each other. Their heyday spanned from the 1930s to the mid-'60s, during which time they went from being a cutting edge jazz act to a classy, MOR group. Their monster hit, "Paper Doll," sold over six million copies in the space of a few weeks and is still in heavy rotation on oldies stations. The Mills Brothers had a direct influence on Doo-Wop but were always in their own, unique genre.
