Wings
Paul McCartney's band Wings thrived in the 1970s, calling it a day in 1979.
Linda McCartney and Denny Laine were permanent members of Wings, but everyone knew it as Paul's solo project.
In 1977, Wings scored the biggest selling U.K. single up to that time: "Mull of Kintyre" was Macca's adopted hometown homage.
McCartney broke up his highly successful band after the assassination of John Lennon in 1980.
Wings is said to be born of an angelic image following Linda's dramatic birth of daughter Stella (when both nearly died).
