Popular among "festavarians," Yonder Mountain String Band plays progressive bluegrass with a traditional acoustic set-up. Yonder Mountain String Band fans call the band's style of music "jamgrass" since it's part jam rock and part bluegrass. Rather than discovering bluegrass through more traditional acts like Bill Monroe, Y.M.S.B. found it via the Grateful Dead. The Yonder Mountain String Band members tour heavily, averaging 170 dates per year. On live encores, Y.M.S.B. have been known to come out and play around one microphone like old pickers did.
