The July Fourth holiday finally provided us with an opportunity to enjoy Vanity Fair’s Sly Stone feature. The legend’s last major public appearance was at the 2006 Grammys, when the reclusive, rumor-inspiring icon sauntered onstage in a gold lamé trench coat, joined in for a few notes of “I Want to Take You Higher,” then sauntered off. As anticlimactic as the moment seemed, apparently it was legitimately the beginning of Sly’s slow but sure re-emergence.
