Coming soon to a war zone near you: The Spice Girls! In what is assuredly an online gimmick gone very wrong, fans have been given the opportunity to vote for a city where the Spice Girls should perform. Three million votes have been cast, and it’s looking like Girl Power might run amok in Saddam Hussein’s old stomping ground. That is, unless the underdog Darfur stages a late comeback. Former Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip will drop his new album The Renaissance, produced by the ear cleaner himself, on December 18th. Hoping to finally knock Rihanna’s “Umbrella” off the U.K. Singles charts, Sony will release limited-edition Elvis Presley singles over the course of eighteen weeks. Stax Records, home to Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes, will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary by resurrecting the label (which had a showcase at 2007’s SXSW festival) and releasing a Stax movie later in the year. Krautrock icons Kraftwerk will have two of their songs remixed by members of the equally electronic Hot Chip.
