Macy, 3 Doors Toast Bush

Artists line up to play inauguration parties, while others launch protest show

Macy Gray, Lyle Lovett, 3 Doors Down and Yolanda Adams are among the performers set to play the parties surrounding President George W. Bush's inauguration on January 20th in Washington, D.C.

In addition to the nine official balls organized by the Inauguration Committee (to the tune of $40 million), there are numerous parties being thrown by lobbying groups. On the 20th, Gray will headline the event for nonprofit arts advocate Creative Coalition, dubbed the Ball After the Balls, while Mississippi rockers 3 Doors Down will lead the Recording Industry Association of America's party at D.C.'s H20 club. For both events, tickets are priced at $1,000.

But the most popular event is January 19th's $125-entry Black Tie and Boots Ball, thrown over the years by the Texas State Society of Washington, D.C. The seven stages of musicians will showcase performances by country singers Lyle Lovett and Clay Walker, as well as Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel.

And for those unhappy with Bush's impending second term, there's Noise Against Facism, at D.C.'s Black Cat club on the evening of his inauguration. The $12 dollar event features performances by Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and producer Don Fleming.
