Skateboarding and Punk are a natural match. Both rely on aggressiveness, rebellion and (to an extent) being loud, fast and unruly. As a subgenre, Skate Punk grew from the music professional skateboarders listened to and championed-sometimes the skaters' own bands. Soundtracks to skateboarding videos often consist of the featured skaters' favorite songs, helping attach a particular Punk sound to skateboarding. In the 1980s, Southern California Hardcore bands such as TSOL, Circle Jerks and Bad Religion were captured on compilations by skater bible Thrasher Magazine, providing a soundtrack for skaters around the globe. Today's Skate Punk is fast, melodic and poppy Punk carried by simple, rapid 4/4 drum beats and blazing guitars.
